Beautify Martinsville Week June 26-29

BEAUTIFY MARTINSVILLE WEEK JUNE 26-29

Financial contributions, yard work items requested

Martinsville, Ind. – June 27, 2017 – Calling all volunteers interested in improving the appeal of Martinsville! This week’s Beautify Martinsville Week will focus on Artesian Little League with families and individuals encouraged to come out each evening from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. today through Thursday to help clean up the area.

Financial donations as well as contributions of trash bags and gloves are requested.

According to Mayor Shannon Kohl, Beautify Martinsville Weeks provide a great opportunity for individuals, families, businesses, schools, churches, and service organization members to be a part of improving the city.

“Beautify Martinsville Weeks are all about cleaning up our community, focusing on specific areas of the city -- in this week’s case, the Artesian Little League area -- one evening at a time. This initiative improves both the appeal of our City and residents’ quality of life.

“We’ve structured these weeks so folks can participate in as many of the evening activities as they choose.  There’s no RSVP needed; simply show up on as many dates as you’d like, ready to help and we’ll take it from there. By families participating, children can learn the value of keeping their community clean and the importance of volunteering for a cause.

“Any amount of time, energy and assistance everyone wants to contribute will make a big impact and be greatly appreciated,” Kohl said. “This is about all of us doing our part to take pride in our City for ourselves, each other and our guests who visit here.”

Homeowners also are encouraged to remove weeds, grass and debris from the sidewalks and curbs in front of their homes.

Tonight through Thursday from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m., volunteers will pick up trash and remove weeds in and around the Artesian Little League field. If there is bad weather any evening, activity will resume the next night through Thursday.

Interested individuals and organizations who would like to make a financial or materials donation should contact Kohl’s assistant Tiffany Miller at 765-342-2861.

Checks should be made out to the City of Martinsville and mailed to Clerk-Treasurer Becky Tumey’s office at 110 West Morgan Street or checks can be dropped off at her office or the Mayor’s office at City Hall (59 South Jefferson Street) or officials will pick up checks directly from contributors.

To help homeowners with their own cleaning, next week (July 3-7) is Bulk Trash Week when Martinsville residents can put furniture, box springs and mattresses curbside for collection on their regular trash pick up day. No electronics, appliances or building materials will be collected.

Any bulk trash items needing disposed of outside of Bulk Trash Week can be taken to the Martinsville Transfer Station at 45 Rose Street.

Beautify Martinsville Weeks are part of the Kohl administration’s Neighborhoods Building Block within its 200-Day Plan.
